17th International Conference on Bear Research and Management was concluded !!
The 17th International Conference on Bear Research and Management(IBA conference) will be held in Karuizawa, Japan in 2006. It will be the first IBA conference held in Asia. Many habitats in Asian countries have been diminished by socioeconomic activities. In these areas, bear populations are at greater risk, as same as other indigenous species. The current status of Asian bears and their biology are not well known although the information is imperative to carry out adequate conservation efforts. The conference will provide opportunities to exchange valuable knowledge of bear biology, conservation, and management between Western and Asian countries. We hope that the conference will inspire more research and effective management for bears in the world, especially more active involvement of local researchers in Asia.
Simultaneous interpretation between English and Japanese will be provided for the oral presentation, workshops, and public events. Interpreting services will be provided at the poster sessions.
The Conference has been arranged by a planning committee, cooperating with governmental agencies, NGO's, and the locals.
